Annual Behavioral Sciences Conference of the North

Students, faculty and community professionals from all behavioral science and human service disciplines are invited to attend the BSCN for an exciting look at current issues and research in the behavioral sciences on April 27 and 28.

The conference will begin on Friday afternoon, April 27th. Stephenie Chaudoir, a PhD candidate at the University of Connecticut, will speak about the negative effects of self-objectification. Chaudoir's presentation will begin at 3:00 p.m. in SSB 118.

On Saturday morning the Opening Keynote address will feature Dr. Kristen Harrison from the University of Illinois. She will present her research on eating disorders in SSB 118 at 9:00 a.m.

Saturday afternoon the Closing Keynote address will feature Juan Barbachano, a student in UAA's Master of Science in Clinical Psychology Program. He and his identical twin sister Liana Hoemke will share their experiences growing up in Alaska and the factors that led Juan to change his gender identity from female to male. They will speak on Saturday afternoon in SSB 118 at 3:00 p.m.

There will be both oral and poster presentations throughout the day on Saturday. There is no charge to attend any of the presentations on Friday and Saturday. A charge of $5.00 for students or $25.00 faculty and community members includes a continental breakfast and your choice of boxed lunches on Saturday. Parking is free in the lot on Alumni Drive just off UAA Drive, or $1.00/hr in the parking garage. Attendants at the lot entrance will be directing traffic to parking for both the Heart Race and the BSCN. Please contact the UAA Psychology Department at 786-1711 for other information.
