The UAA Department of Music presents A Tribute to Wayne Shorter

UAA's Department of Music presents its sixth installment of the Jazz Week Benefit Concert Series Wednesday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in UAA's Fine Arts recital hall.

The concert with feature original pieces by Wayne Shorter performed by Kerry Maule, Don Cosgrove, Tom Bargelski, Dirk Westfall, and Bob Arms. Wayne Shorter is well-known in the jazz community as one of the most outstanding saxophonists and composers in jazz. Shorter has worked with many noticeable names in the jazz industry such as Miles Davis and Art Blakey. Shorter worked with Miles Davis as a member of the jazz-rock fusion band Weather Report in the 1960s and '70s. Shorter's music pieces and style with Weather Report conveyed a reversal of character traditionally assumed by jazz melody and accompaniment. The melodies are simple and floating whereas the accompaniments are driving and complex.

The Jazz Week Benefit Concert Series helps raise funds for Jazz Week 2008.
