No Big Heads picks up head of steam, opens Thursday

"No Big Heads," UAA's national self-portrait competition, opens Thursday, Nov. 1, with a reception in the Student Union Gallery, followed by a First Friday reception on Nov. 2. This year's juror is the renowned Akio Takamori of Kyushu, Japan, who will give a free talk at 7 p.m. this evening, Oct. 31, in Arts 150, about his work and the life of a professional artist. At Thursday's opening, Takamori will announce the "No Big Heads" winners and the awards, including prizes of $250, $500 and $1,000. The show runs through Nov. 15. Receptions for Thursday's opening and the First Friday event are both scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mon.-Thurs., to 5 p.m. Fridays.
