Original choreography in 'Dance Ensemble in Concert'

The Dept. of Theatre and Dance presentation "Dance Ensemble in Concert," which opens tonight, Nov. 8, in the Fine Arts Building for a two-week run, showcases the company performing original choreography by faculty members Brian Jeffery and Katya Kuznetsova. Jeffery's "The Distance Between Us" is a premiere that features four men and four women dancing to tunes by Bonobo, Four Tet, Mice Parade and Broken Social Scene as they examine the duality of couples encountering proximities of closeness and separateness. Kuznetsova, recognized as a performer, choreographer and educator, will perform a new solo work as well as showcase Ensemble alumni Walter Barillas and Irenerose Castillo in a duet of playful, luscious movement. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday, through Nov. 18. $10 all seats (gen'l. adm.), except UAA students, $8. Tickets available through UAA Theatre box office (786-4849).
