Basketball teams return home tonight, heroes still

by Kathleen McCoy  |

The women's and men's basketball teams each saw their seasons -- make that historic seasons -- end in the Final Four round of NCAA Div. II championship play on Thursday. The men lost to August State, 56-50, but not after an all-out burst of second-half guts that almost made up for an appalling first half. The women lost to Northern Kentucky, 57-54, staying in the fight all game and losing on a missed 3-pointer in the final second.

UAA is only the second Division II team in history to send both its men's and women's teams to the Final Four (the other, Central Missouri State, did it in 1984 and won both championships). Read more about the finish to the 'Wolves' record-setting seasons in Sports, below, and be sure to check out the Go Seawolves! site.

The Seawolves return to Anchorage tonight, and a public welcome is planned for the players at Anchorage International Airport. The men's team is scheduled to arrive at 7:46 p.m. on Northwest Airlines flight 845 at the main terminal. The women's team is to arrive at 9:37 p.m. via United Airlines flight 701, also at the main terminal. Well-wishers are heartily encouraged to be there. Please arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the team's arrival time and gather outside the security entrance.
