Survivor of Nazi camps to speak here tonight

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Holocaust survivor Gerda Weissmann Klein, famous for living through the most wretched experience and being liberated by, among others, the man who would marry her soon afterward, will give a talk in Rasmuson 101 at 7 p.m. this evening, March 31.

Klein's visit to Alaska -- the only one of the 50 states she has not seen until now -- is being made possible by UAA history Prof. Bill Myers working with Erin Knotek, a Postal Service worker from Moose Pass. Klein began her series of presentations on Saturday evening in Moose Pass, where 200 people heard her at the Moose Pass School, according to Knotek. She spoke Sunday evening at Congregation Beth Sholom in Anchorage.

To learn more about Klein, her days during the darkness of World War II, and the remarkable series of events that have brought her to Alaska, read the University Advancement news release.
