Call for papers: Alaska Visionaries: Seekers, Leaders and Dreamers

by Kathleen McCoy  |

The 50th anniversary of Statehood gives Alaskans the golden opportunity to consider and honor the hero citizens of their state, those whose dreams and drive advanced our interests and made Alaska the remarkable place it is.

"Alaska Visionaries: Seekers, Leaders and Dreamers" is the theme of this year's Alaska Historical Society Conference, to be held in Anchorage in the fall, part of the ongoing Statehood celebrations. But while the conference is six months off, the time to ponder those visionaries is now, because organizers are soliciting proposals for papers to be read at the conference.

Professional, amateur and student historians, journalists, commentators and others are invited to submit proposals for papers that reflect on the contributions that shaped Alaska and, on this anniversary occasion, look forward to what our future may hold. Selected papers will be presented at the Alaska Historical Society conference, Oct. 16-18, at UAA and the Z.J. Loussac Library.

Proposals for papers are due May 30.
