Spring 2009: Alaska Legislature to honor the Seawolves at Den event

This morning the Alaska State Legislature honored the UAA women's basketball team for their record-breaking year. Rep. Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage) introduced a citation praising the team's efforts and great success which culminated in a second-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Final Four. The citation will be presented at today's celebration.

The UAA women's basketball team just completed one of the greatest seasons in school history with a 31-4 record, its second consecutive NCAA Div. II Final Four berth, and its first-ever Great Northwest Athletic Conference title. Now it's time to celebrate these incredible successes!

The Seawolves' women's basketball team had an incredible year -- they broke more than 25 school records and were ranked among the Top 10 nationally the entire season. Led by All-America senior Rebecca Kielpinski, the Seawolves won 22 straight games from November through February, including a win over Division I Syracuse to capture a third consecutive Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout title.
