Cartoonist, journalist, musician and filmmaker Peter Dunlap-Shohl will speak today, March 18 at 1 p.m. in the Beatrice McDonald Hall (BMH), Room 211.

After more than two decades penning political cartoons on the editorial page and Anchorage Daily News Web site, as well as a humorous comic strip called Muskeg Heights for the newspaper's comics page, Dunlap-Shohl recently left the newspaper, but continues to produce creative commentary featured on his personal blog, The Frozen Grin.

Dunlap-Shohl manages the illness Parkinson's Disease. His talk, "Exiled from my comfort zone," addresses his recent bursts of creativity despite the illness and the downturn in the newspaper industry. "Creativity is actually driven by limits," he writes. "If you have no problems, you need no solutions. Luckily for me, I had problems aplenty."
