Saturday, April 18, 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Social Sciences Building (SSB), Room 118

Dr. James Liu, the acting director of the Center for Applied Cross Cultural Research at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, will give a free public presentation at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 in SSB 118.

The tension between symbolic equality, or equality in principle, and resource-based inequality, the legacy of colonization, creates the societal fabric within which New Zealanders currently exist. Dr Liu will draw parallels to the situation faced by indigenous peoples of Alaska and more recent colonizers and his analysis of New Zealand society. Attendees will be encouraged to participate in a discussion to develop these parallels.

Funding for Dr. Liu's presentation was provided by the UAA Diversity Action Council and the UAA Department of Psychology BP Speaker Fund.
