How to Complete the IDEA FIF's Today, Sept. 24, 2:30-3:30 p.m UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 306

Claudia Lampman, professor in the UAA Psychology Dept., will serve as presenter covering these topics: The IDEA forms can be a bit confusing. How many objectives should I select? What levels should I select? What do they mean? What is the connection between how I fill out the FIF and the end-of-semester report I get from IDEA?

Learn the theory behind the questions and format and determine how to best use the IDEA instrument to help you measure the effects your teaching choices have on the course objectives. Offered again on Friday, Oct. 2. Register at Cafe's Navigating the System Web page.

Forum on Research Responsibilities Friday, Sept. 25, 8:30-9:30 a.m. UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 302

Bob White, Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies, will present. This session will explore topics in both pre- and post-award Sponsored Project Administration at UAA. The session will address how the Office of Research and Graduate Studies (ORGS) assists faculty in preparing a proposal, including:

  • constructing the budget
  • reviewing the proposal narrative for IRB or IACUC issues, and
  • acting as liaison between the PI and the awarding agency to ensure the best chances of receiving funding.

Post-award services provided by ORGS/Grants and Contracts will be explained. A brief overview of the information and documents PIs need to administer a grant or contract and the basic duties of a PI will also be provided. This session is sponsored by the Office Research and Graduate Studies. Please register at the Cafe Web site.

Classroom Techniques to Increase Student Participation Friday, Sept. 25, 8:30-10 a.m. UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 306

Jackie Cason, Department of English professor, will demonstrate and lead a discussion about techniques from UAA/APU's Start Talking: A Handbook for Engaging Difficult Dialogues in Higher Education.

Jackie, a contributor to the handbook and an experienced leader of difficult dialogues, will introduce such methods as the five-minute rule, hatful of quotes and the use of rhetorical questions. This program is part of the Best Practices for New Faculty series and is open to all faculty.
