Fall 2009: UAA prof Andrew Kulmatiski presents on "Getting 'the dirt' on plant growth"
by Kathleen McCoy |
Today, Sept. 18, 3:30-4:45 p.m.
Conoco Phillips Integrated Science Building (CPISB), Room 120
Dr. Kulmatiski will describe a field of researech that explores how plants change soils and how this affects subsequent plant growth. He will describe a number of experiments that demonstrate these plant-soil feedback effects as well as present a mathematical model that attempts to capture this relationship.
He will also show that a review of the literature, as well as his own experiments and models, suggest that these plant-soil feedbacks are critical in determining when and where individual plants grow.
Parking is free on the UAA campus on Fridays. No-host refreshments will be provided; your contributions are greatly appreciated.
