Thursday, Oct. 22, 7-9 p.m.
UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307

In collaboration with the Center for Behavioral Health Research and Services (CBHRS), the Arctic Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Regional Training Center (Arctic FASD RTC) is pleased to announce the fall 2009 FASD Speaker Series. Each month, a member of the Arctic FASD RTC affiliate faculty will present a two-hour public lecture on a topic related to FASDs. All students, faculty, staff and interested members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend.

October's lecture will be presented by Michael Baldwin, M.S., who will discuss the relationship between FASDs and suicide ideation, attempts and completion. Baldwin will address this topic from his experience as a clinician and based on research data he has collected over the last decade.

Baldwin has worked as a behavioral health clinician and advocate for children, adolescents, adults and families affected by the consequences of FASDs for nearly 20 years. For seven years, he coordinated a multi-disciplinary FASD Diagnostic Clinic and Prevention Program. He is the author of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and Suicidality in a Healthcare Setting, published in the International Journal of Circumpolar Health.

Continuing Education Credit: Participants will be eligible to receive two (2) continuing education (CE) credits for the completion of the workshop for only $25 (processing fee). CBHRS is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CBHRS maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Please visit www.uaa.alaska.edu/arcticfasdrtc/training.cfm to download the CE registration form and for information about learning objectives, target audience and prerequisite knowledge.
