Spring 2010: CAFE presents Proactive Design
by Kathleen McCoy |
Today, Feb. 26, 8:30-10 a.m.
UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 306
Learn how to create course materials that are easier for students to use and learn how to get assistance in converting existing content. Examples that will be covered include the use of styles and templates in Word and PowerPoint as well as conversion to PDF and captioning of video. By making good design choices content will generally be:
smaller file size (supporting those with low bandwidth connections or small e-mail
inboxes)
searchable (helping people find the information they need)
accessible to those using assistive or emerging technologies such as text to speech
Not only will this workshop cover the best practices you need to know in order to
design content in ways that allow users flexibility and choice, a framework often
referred to as universal design, but participants will also have the opportunity to
get involved in a new project that provides interns to convert content identified
by faculty and staff as potentially problematic.
It's proactive, supports student success and requires very little time or effort.
Hope to see you there!
