March 4, 2010: ISER: Sustainability Director Paula Williams to speak

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Thursday, March 4, noon-1 p.m. ISER Conference Room, 5th Floor, Diplomacy Building

Paula Williams became the University of Alaska Anchorage's first sustainability director in January 2009. The purpose of UAA's Office of Sustainability is to reduce UAA's effects on the environment by "promoting and establishing a positive social, ecological and economic legacy for future generations," according to the office's mission statement.

Dr. Williams will talk about what sustainability obligations UAA has committed itself to, what we're doing to meet those obligations, and what challenges we face. She'll also discuss what individual employees of UAA can do to help.

Paula Williams holds an interdisciplinary Ph.D. from the University of Alaska Fairbanks; her work has focused on what influences people's perception of change -- and their willingness to adapt to change.

Before becoming sustainability director, she worked for UAA's Resilience and Adaptive Management Group. She also previously practiced law in Anchorage. Come to ISER and learn what UAA is doing to sustain the environment for the coming generations of Alaskans. The announcement can be viewed at the ISER Web site.

The Diplomacy Building is at 4500 Diplomacy Drive, at the corner of Tudor Road and Tudor Centre Drive. Parking is free. Call (907) 786-7710 if you need directions.
