UAA Against Domestic Violence sponsors information panel, resource fair - Spring 2010

UAA Against Domestic Violence sponsors these activities to draw your attention to the facts of domestic violence:
- UAA Domestic Violence Panel Discussion, Wednesday, April 7, noon, the Student Union Den. Honorable Judge Karen Hunt will moderate a discussion panel including:
- Melissa Emmal, Programs Director for Abused Women's Aid in Crisis, Inc. These programs include a 52-bed emergency shleter program, an Alaska Native safe home, a transitional housing program, two case management and financial assistance programs, legal advocacy, community outreach and education, volunteers and a children's program.
- Pamela Scott Washington, Esq., Assistant Municipal Prosecutor in the only designated Domestic Violence Unit in the state. Ms. Washington prosecutes domestic violence assaults, family violence, child abuse and child neglect cases for the city of Anchorage.
- Sergeant Michael Beckner, Detective Sargeant with the University Police Department (UPD). He has 15 years of law enforcement experience including the last four years with the University. He has been involved in more than 1,000 criminal prosecutions.
- Marny Rivera, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Justice Center at UAA. Dr. Rivera is involved in research on violence against women and recently co-authored several reports and articles on domestic violence.
- Randy Magen, professor and coordinator of the MSW program in the School of Social Work at UAA. Dr. Magan has lead treatment groups for men who batter and provided crisis interventon for victims of domestic violence. He has published research on the overlap between domestic violence and child maltreatment as well as the incidence, prevalence and context of domestic violence in one Alaska Native region.
- Resource Fair, Wednesday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Union Hallway.
