Identity theft can be an issue with discarded cell phones

by Kathleen McCoy  |

When disposing of cell phones, a recent news bulletin on identity theft mentioned personal information being left on cell phones even when the SIM card is removed. Besides basic contact information, cell phone users have been known to list passwords, account numbers, birthdays and other personal information within the phone applications.

Due to the new UAA cell phone policy, our Surplus Department has started receiving phonesthat are no longer being used. When turning a phone in, please remember to remove your SIM card and erase any sensitive information prior to giving it to Surplus.
