Randy Williamson, director of Career Services Center, passed away Feb. 7

Dear UAA community,



It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of UAA Director of Career Services Center Randy Williamson. It is reported that Randy died on Monday, Feb. 7 in Anchorage. Prior to starting in his position at UAA in August 2010, Randy was the Associate Director of Career Services at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA.



Randy was very passionate about working with students and helping them develop their career goals and aspirations. "It is my belief that students should follow their passions. The concept of vocation really points to an individual having a calling to follow a particular career path. It is through self-exploration that students can identify their passions. The greatest enjoyment I get in my work is seeing students find their passions," he wrote.



Since joining UAA, Randy worked diligently to create relationships with faculty and staff in support of student success in career planning. "In the short six months Randy was with us, he impressed me with his desire to fully support the diverse needs of our students. He introduced a new level of credibility, professionalism and focus," Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Bruce Schultz said.



Randy's supervisor, Dr. Dewain L. Lee, Dean of Students and Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Development added that "Randy was a great addition to the Student Development team. With his smile and wit, he always brought a fresh perspective on working with students whether career development-related or not. I will miss having him on the Student Development team."



Devon Rust, an employee in the Career Services Center observed, "Randy always found time for a student or colleague who needed
guidance. He inspired us with his dedication to students and brought smiles to our faces with his thoughtfulness and hilarious sense of humor. We will miss him." 

Randy is survived by his brothers, sister, step-daughter and many relatives and friends. We extend our deepest sympathy to Randy's family, friends, colleagues and staff who are most closely affected by Randy's passing.
