Mary SnyderMary Snyder, dean of UAA's College of Education (COE), has recently accepted a leadership position with the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). Snyder, who's been at UAA for the past eight years, will become the dean of UCCS's College of Education on July 1.

During her time at UAA, Dean Snyder has helped to advance the College in many ways. "Thanks to Mary's leadership, UAA's College of Education has made major strides in preparing more well-qualified teachers for Alaska," said Provost Mike Driscoll. "The state's children will continue to see the benefits of her work for years to come."

Important accomplishments for Dean Snyder during her tenure at UAA include leading a successful continuing accreditation visit by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and securing more than $9M in external funding, including a $400K private donation to implement the Chevak Initiative, a rural, site-based program in elementary education.

A going away party will be held for Dean Snyder on May 23 at 3 p.m. in Library 307.
