Kenai School District important for the local economy
by Kathleen McCoy |
In a study conducted by the Institute for Social and Economic Research at UAA, researchers
found that the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District has a significant impact on
the local economy. As the borough's largest employer, the district has a payroll of
more than $64 million for 1,217 employees. According to an article recapping the study
in the Peninsula Clarion "that $64 million generates another $33 million as it circulates
to local businesses and their employees." That said, the argument is that a next phase
of study should be economic significance based on what Kenai graduates contribute
to society in the future. Weigh in here.
