The Center for Community Engagement and Learning hires associate director
by Jamie Gonzales |
We are pleased to announce that Lora Jorgensen will be joining the staff of the Center for Community Engagement and Learning (CCEL) as the new associate director. Lora will begin as the associate director for
CCEL in a temporary capacity while the current CCEL director, Judith Owens-Manley,
serves as the half-time interim associate dean for the University Honors College in
addition to continuing her duties with CCEL.
Lora was most recently the director of Outreach and Early Awareness for the Alaska
Commission on Postsecondary Education, where she was responsible for spearheading
a high school mentoring program for statewide replication under a federal grant and
developing a multi-sector approach to college access delivery throughout the state.
She has a master's degree in Adult Education and a bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology
from UAA. In addition, she has worked as an adjunct and term professor for the Human
Services Department at UAA. Lora has served as a member of the College Access Challenge
Grant Advisory Team for the U.S. Department of Education and as a member of the United
Way's Agency Review Panel. Prior to her work with the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary
Education, Lora worked as the executive director of the Anchorage Community Schools,
as Rebound Development director for RurAL CAP and as vice president of Human Resource
Development for Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Inc. Lora has extensive experience in both
the community and the university, and we are excited about adding her to the CCEL
staff!
