Mat-Su staff and faculty pose with newly acquired artworkOn Monday, April 23,  the Matanuska-Susitna College received an extraordinary bequest from the Estate of Nadine Beacock of London, Ontario, Canada. Ms. Beacock passed away on Nov. 6, 2010. In her will, she left an original oil painting by Fred Machetanz, "Start of the Hunt," a lithograph of "The Seal Hunter," a framed Machetanz print, and two Eskimo prints by Emerak all to "that University of Alaska campus which is most closely and proximately associated with Fred and Sara Machetanz." College Director Talis Colberg noted, "The Machetanz family has been the donor that keeps on giving to our college. They gave us 240 acres of their property, their private library of Alaskana books, a $64,000 endowed scholarship fund and now we are coming into possession of an ever increasing portion of the art collection that made Fred Machetanz an international historical figure. We are fortunate and thrilled to have the Machetanz association with this campus."

Featured in the photo are Machetanz's "Start of the Hunt" (1965), College Director of Library Services Craig Ballain, Assistant Professor of Art Suzanne Bach, College Director Talis Colberg, and the lithograph "Seal Hunter."
