Finnish consul general to visit UAA Sept. 10, Arctic policy and education on the agenda

Kirsti Westphalen, consul general of Finland, will be on UAA's campus next Monday,
Sept. 10, to discuss Finland's Arctic policy and education reform as it can relate
to Alaska. Open to the public are her presentations "Finland and Alaska: A conversation
about Arctic policy" and "The Finland phenomenon: A discussion of the Finland school
system."

Westphalen has worked in the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs for three decades, and has had postings in Paris, Beijing, New York, Damascus and Rabat. Since 2008, she has been the consul general of Finland in Los Angeles, where she has focused on sustainable and clean technology solutions, educational excellence and exchanges between Finland and the United States.
