Nov. 15, 2012: 'Inaugural Alaska Brain Bee'

by Michelle Saport  |

Thursday, Nov. 15, Noon-1 p.m.
UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 304

Faculty, join us to hear the results of a community-engaged learning course and a faculty mini-grant! How does a course combine with a project? How does it work?

Caroline Wilson, from the Department of Biological Sciences, will talk about the inaugural Alaska Brain Bee held at UAA last March. Students in Biology 490 engaged local high schoolers in the subject of neuroscience in partnership with the Anchorage School District, culminating in a "spelling bee" type event around neuroscience topics.

The Center for Community Engagement & Learning (CCEL) produces the Faculty Colloquia for report outs of CCEL mini-grants awarded in the previous semester. The presentations are informal, followed by discussion. Bring your lunch and join us in LIB 304 to hear about these dynamic community projects and partnerships!

For more information, please visit the CCEL website or call (907) 786-4062.
