The Department of Facilities, Planning and Construction has hired Lonnie Mansell as the UAA facilities planner. Lonnie has an extensive background in facilities planning and management. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2007, following a military career that included a three-year assignment at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

After his military retirement, he continued working for the Army at Fort Huachuka, Ariz. as a civilian engineer, managing the Military Construction Program for the Army's worldwide Information Systems and Communication Facilities Command.

Lonnie reported to UAA in early June and is responsible for facilities planning for the UAA main campus and community college campuses in Kenai, Matanuska-Susitna Valley, Valdez, Kodiak and Homer. His responsibilities include master planning, capital planning and space management. He is currently leading the campus master planning team that's updating the UAA Campus Master Plan.
