Mentoring Refugees: Assisting with Resettlement in Anchorage - Dec. 3, 2012
by Michelle Saport |
Monday, Dec. 3, 5-7 p.m.
UAA Campus Bookstore
Join us as several mentors share their experiences in volunteering with the Refugee
Assistance and Immigration Services program, offered by Catholic Social Services,
welcoming and orienting new refugees to Anchorage. Family mentors have volunteer agreements
for a minimum of six months and a wealth of new experiences and new cultural understandings
for themselves! Nathan Welker, a student at UAA, began as a family mentor as a capstone
experience in the Civic Engagement Certificate program and following an internship
in Senegal. He created this panel presentation as a part of his capstone course.
This event is free and open to the public with free parking in the South Lot, the lot just across from the bookstore. For more information, contact Rachel Epstein at repstein2@uaa.alaska.edu or (907) 786-4782.
