Clcik image for larger version.In recognition of the tremendous achievements made by civil rights leaders past and present, UAA will celebrate Alaska Civil Rights Month, Jan. 15-Feb. 16, for the 28th year. Join us as we honor the legacy and actions of civil rights leaders at a number of events on campus throughout the month-long celebration.

UAA's Alaska Civil Rights Month Celebration

Parking is free during the event. Have a slice of cake to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday while listening to Chancellor Tom Case, USUAA Student Body President Alejandra Buitrago, Professor Willie Hensley and community member Dr. Alonzo Patter speak. Also hear the speech that has inspired and ignited change for 50 years, "I Have a Dream..."

'Hunger in Urban Alaska: The Daily Lives of Pantry Users' presented by Tracey Burke

Tracey Burke, associate professor in the School of Social Work, has conducted exploratory research to reveal the background stories of local food-insecure families and has worked in partnership with the Food Bank of Alaska. Come hear the results of Burke's research along with additional hunger study data that may challenge the way we think about poverty and hunger in our community.
