Faculty: Apply by March 15 to attend Alaska Native summer culture camp

by Michelle Saport  |

Educators participating in the ECCI programThe Educator Cross-Cultural Immersion (ECCI) program offers a unique opportunity to learn, work and play at an Alaska Native summer culture camp. The camp experience gives teachers insight into Alaska Native people, their culture, their ways of teaching, learning and living. Educators participate in Alaska Native cultures to better inform their teaching and support their students.

Brought to you by the Alaska Humanities Forum, this is the final year that Take Wing Alaska will sponsor UAA faculty attendance to culture camps with ECCI. Take Wing Alaska is a 28-month program for high school students in the Lower Yukon and Lower Kuskokwim school districts that culturally mentors students for the transition they will make from their rural home to an urban post-secondary education of their choice. There will be an opportunity in July to meet the students.

Application deadline is March 15. To apply, visit the ECCI website.

Priority will be given to faculty who:

  • Demonstrate a desire to learn about Alaska Native cultures;
  • Have a clear interest to apply what they learned in the classroom;
  • Indicate a potential to broadly impact teaching in their department/program; and
  • Commit to full participation in all events.
