Resources for those affected by Typhoon Merbok

by Green & Gold News  |

Dear UAA Community,

Members of our UAA community are being impacted by the devastation facing Western Alaska as a result of Typhoon Merbok. Hundreds of UAA students call these communities home, and many of us have colleagues, friends and family in the region. Our thoughts are with everyone grappling with the impact of this natural disaster.

At UAA, we are committed to the success and well-being of our students, faculty and staff. In facing these challenges, we will come together and support one another. Our faculty and staff are actively reaching out to affected students. I encourage students impacted by the typhoon to contact their professors if they need support or accommodation.

Please know that there are resources available for those impacted by the ongoing challenges from this natural disaster. Students can visit the UAA Student Health and Counseling Center or contact the Dean of Students Care Team for support. I also encourage supervisors to be flexible with employees who may need accommodations during this time. Additional support resources are available to employees through UA Human Resources

For those interested in making a donation to the Typhoon Merbok response, please consider the following organizations:

●     Red Cross of Alaska
●     Alaska Community Foundation
●     The Alaska Division of the Salvation Army

As always, thank you for everything you do for our university, our community and our state.

Sincerely,

Sean Parnell
UAA Chancellor
