Dear UAA Community,

We are pleased to share an update on the search for the next Chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). Since launching the national recruitment earlier this month, we have received applications and expressions of interest from many highly qualified candidates. This strong response reflects the outstanding reputation of UAA and the exciting opportunities ahead for our university.

We are seeking a visionary leader with a strong record of organizational success. While experience in higher education is valued, we also welcome candidates from diverse sectors such as business, nonprofit, government, and industry who demonstrate a commitment to community engagement and advancing UAA’s mission across Alaska. The Chancellor Search Committee includes students, faculty, staff, governance and community leaders. Co-chaired by Faculty Alliance Chair Dr. Jackie Cason and former Board of Regents Chair Sheri Buretta, the committee is dedicated to fostering an open and cooperative process.

Search Timeline:

• May 7, 2025: Recruitment Launch
• June 6, 2025: Committee Begins Rolling Review to Identify Semi-finalists
• Late July 2025: Virtual Interviews with Semi-finalists
• August 2025: Finalists Recommended to President Pitney
• September 2025: Finalists Visit Campus for In-Person Meetings
• October 2025: Chancellor Announcement

This timeline aims for campus visits the week of September 8th to provide for as much stakeholder involvement as possible.

Committee Support

Michelle Rizk, UA Vice President for University Relations, will serve in an advisory capacity, along with Raegan Kelliher, Executive Assistant to the Chancellor. Chris Triplett (UA HR Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist) and Helen Sale (Lead Human Resources Coordinator) will provide guidance on hiring policy and administrative support.
