English Proficiency Requirements

All international students must show that they have obtained a certain level of English Proficiency. UAA does not offer conditional admission due to incomplete or low English Proficiency Test Scores.

English Proficiency Testing

All test scores submitted must be official. Please ask the testing center to make the results available to the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Associate and Bachelor Degree Applicants

  • Minimum TOEFL Score: 71 iBT
  • Minimum IELTS Score: 6.0 Overall Band

Master and Doctoral Degree Applicants

  • Minimum TOEFL Score: 79 iBT
  • Minimum IELTS Score: 6.5 Overall Band

English Proficiency Waivers

If you meet one of the following requirements you may submit an English Proficiency waiver form:

  • You are a native English language speaker.
  • You have attended a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, and have:
    • received a "C" or better in a course equivalent to UAA's Writing 111 course, or
    • obtained a Bachelor or Master Degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
