The College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) at the University of Alaska provides academic, financial, and social support to students
from migrant and seasonal work backgrounds. CAMP is designed to help students successfully
transition and succeed in higher education. Our mission is to foster academic success,
personal growth, and a strong community of migrant scholars at the University of Alaska
Anchorage.
CAMP Services
Our program provides comprehensive services tailored to meet the unique needs of Alaskan
migrant students, including:
Financial Assistance: Support to help cover living and educational expenses during the first year of college.
Orientation Program: Three day program specifically designed to support CAMP Scholars’ transition to college
Academic Support: Personalized academic advising, tutoring, and workshops to foster success in the
classroom.
Career and College Planning: Assistance with navigating college resources and preparing for future career opportunities.
Community Building: Opportunities to connect with other CAMP students, UAA faculty, and staff through
events and activities.
Health and Wellness Support: Access to resources that address physical and mental health, helping students balance
academic demands and personal wellbeing.
Eligibility
Be FAFSA Eligible (US citizen or permanent resident)
Have a high school diploma or GED
Enroll at UAA as a first-year full time undergraduate student
To qualify for the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), students or their families
must meet one of the following criteria:
Participated in the Migrant Education Program (MEP) at any point during K-12 grades
Have a family background in migrant or seasonal farm work, fishing, or related industries*
Be eligible to participate, or have previously participated, in the National Farmworker
Jobs Program (NFJP) under section 67 of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
At the University of Alaska, our CAMP Scholars have access to a wide range of resources
designed to support their academic journey and personal development. These resources
are available throughout their time at UAA to ensure they have the tools they need
to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Academic Resources
Tutoring: CAMP provides tutoring services in key subjects to support coursework, exams,
and study skills.
Academic Advising: CAMP has a dedicated advisor who specializes in supporting migrant
students and provides guidance on course selection, study strategies, and academic
progress.
Financial Resources
CAMP provides grant aid to qualified participants and assists students in completing
the FAFSA, scholarship applications, and budgeting college expenses.
Career Development
CAMP scholars internship and job placement assistance as well as workshops on Resume
Building, Interview Skills, and Career Exploration.
Mentorship Opportunities
Opportunities to connect with CAMP mentors who can provide guidance and support throughout
the college experience.
Health and Wellness Support
Physical and Mental Health Services: Information on healthcare options, including
UAA’s health center, and support for students navigating health insurance.
Technology and Learning Resources
Laptop Loan Program: Access to laptops and other technology resources as needed to
complete coursework.
