April event focuses on Indigenous Wellness and Healing

Alaskans interested in Indigenous healing and health are encouraged to attend the 2016 Alaska Native Studies Conference April 14-16 at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Keynote speakers include internationally recognized indigenous health experts Michael Yellow Bird (Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara) and Shawn Wilson (Opaskwayak Cree). Attendees also can choose from nearly 50 panel discussions, workshops and presentations on topics ranging from ancestral paleo eating to traditional mental health practices.

The conference will highlight Alaska Native and Indigenous success stories and find ways to incorporate these healthy approaches into Alaskans’ daily lives, including in business, government and healthcare.

Registration is open now. Passes cost $135; students and elders (62 +) attend free.
