Invasive Plant Species Survey and Remediation

Invasive Plant Species Survey and Remediation
Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson
Ongoing from 2019

AERC was tasked to survey and identify invasive priority species on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER). The priority species included reed canary grass, orange hawkweed, Canada thistle, bird vetch, elodea, sweet clover, mountain ash, and bird cherry. The project included inventory and assessment of invasive species, evaluation of the efficacy of previously treated invasive species populations, and treatment of invasive plant species including the use equipment necessary to apply chemical control, including herbicide to aid in the removal of the priority invasive species.

  • Identify locations of priority species on base.
  • Remediate and remove invasive species.
  • Determine the efficacy of remediation techniques.
