Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson

A joint effort between the United States Army Core of Engineers (USACE) and AERC collected data on spruce stands infested with beetles on JBER. The information on beetle activity informed response and management strategies on base. The AERC continues to work with USACE to identify and remove infected and high risk trees on base. The management areas are continuously assessed to address new outbreaks.

Project goals: Identify areas of spruce beetle outbreak to inform base management plans, remediate areas of outbreak to decrease the spread of the spruce beetles, and survey areas to identify future risks from spruce beetles regarding wildland fires.
