☕ A Day in the Life of a Professional Isn't What Most Students Expect

One of the biggest surprises students experience during internships and summer jobs is that professional work rarely looks like what they imagined from the outside. While every industry is different, most jobs involve much more than the technical skills listed in a job description.

• A Lot of Time Is Spent Communicating
  Meetings, emails, quick conversations, project updates, and collaborative discussions often make up a significant part of the workday. Being able to communicate clearly is just as important as technical expertise in many roles.

• Problem-Solving Happens Constantly
  Even the best-planned projects encounter unexpected challenges. Professionals spend much of their time identifying issues, gathering information, and figuring out practical solutions.

• Priorities Change
  Unlike a syllabus that lays out an entire semester, workplace priorities can shift quickly. Learning how to adapt while staying focused is a skill that develops with experience.

• Most Work Is Collaborative
  

  Many students imagine professionals working independently most of the day. In reality, much of the work happens through teamwork, feedback, and coordination across different groups and departments.

• No One Has Everything Figured Out
  

  Perhaps the biggest surprise of all: even experienced professionals continue learning, asking questions, and adapting throughout their careers. Growth doesn't stop after graduation—it becomes part of the job.

🌷 Spring Semester Rewind

As we wrap up the academic year, we're looking back at some of the events, celebrations, and opportunities that brought the CBPP community together this spring. Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped make these events a success!

🎉 Celebrating Excellence at the College of Business and Public Policy

One of the semester's signature events was Celebrating Excellence at CBPP, where we recognized the accomplishments of outstanding CBPP students and celebrated scholarship recipients from across the college. The event highlighted the hard work, leadership, and dedication demonstrated by our students throughout the academic year and provided an opportunity to recognize their many contributions both inside and outside the classroom.

💼 Business Plan and Big Idea Competition

CBPP hosted the Business Plan and Big Idea Competition, and we were proud to welcome such talented students from the Anchorage School District.

🌭 Fueling Up for Finals

As finals week approached, CBPP hosted Fueling Up for Finals to help students tackle the last stretch of the semester. With pizza, hot dogs, and plenty of encouragement, students were able to take a well-earned break, connect with classmates, and recharge before heading into exams.

🏀 CBPP Night at the Games 

CBPP Night at the Games brought students, faculty, staff, family members, and friends together to cheer on the Seawolves and enjoy an evening outside the classroom. The event provided a fun opportunity to connect with fellow members of the college while showing support for UAA Athletics.

🍪 Sweets in the Suite

This spring also marked several Sweets in the Suite events held in The Suite at CBPP. These gatherings gave students a chance to enjoy treats, spend time with classmates, and experience one of CBPP's newest student spaces. It was exciting to see The Suite become a welcoming place for students to study, connect, and build community throughout the semester.

🎓 Commencement Celebration

Before crossing the stage at commencement, graduating CBPP students gathered for our annual Commencement Celebration. The event provided an opportunity for graduates to relax, enjoy refreshments, connect with classmates, and celebrate the accomplishments that brought them to this milestone. 

Thank you to everyone who attended events, participated in programs, and helped make this semester such a success. We look forward to seeing what the next academic year will bring and wish everyone a wonderful summer ahead.
