The Center prepares health profession students for practice in rural and underserved communities. Targeting all disciplines from certificate to doctorate programs, the Center works with health facilities and providers across Alaska to provide community based experiential learning opportunities. Core topics relevant to rural practice are emphasized, such as: cultural competency, interprofessional education, and social determinants of health.
Activities include:
AHEC Scholars is a two-year program designed to supplement and broaden a student’s
healthcare training. Any student enrolled in their final two years of an Alaskan healthcare
program can apply!
RIIN
Gain healthcare experience the Alaskan way! RIIN is apart of the Alaska AHEC Program.
Rural Alaskan "Edventure" for undergraduate & graduate healthcare students or professionals
interested in rural health practice. All disciplines are welcome.
Certificate Trainings
The Alaska AHEC has certified instructors to provide Youth, teen, Adult MHFA, BLS,
Mandt De-Escalation, and Red Cross First Aid & CPR.
