Biography

Angelia Trujillo is a professor with the University of Alaska Anchorage, School of Nursing. Dr. Trujillo has worked in the field of interpersonal violence, sexual assault, and public health for approximately 20 years. Dr. Trujillo obtained her Women's Health Nurse Practitioner certification from Frontier Nursing University in 2017, obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a focus on Forensic Nursing in 2008 from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and also holds a Master’s of Science – Advanced Community Health Nursing from the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Dr. Trujillo currently practices as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and has worked as a forensic nurse examiner with experience working with adult, adolescent, and child sexual assault victims. In addition, Dr. Trujillo consults with state and local law enforcement agencies, has presented at the local, state, and national levels on issues of interpersonal violence and public health, serves on the Alaska Violent Death Reporting System Advisory Board, and is a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Forensic Nursing and the Journal of the Academy of Forensic Nursing. Dr. Trujillo founded the Alaska Comprehensive Forensic Training Academy in 2019 and has served as the lead faculty since that time. Dr. Trujillo is a co-founder of the Academy of Forensic Nursing which strives to promote the role of education, research, and service in the provision of care to all victims of violence. In addition, Dr. Trujillo has worked with Senator Murkowski's office on the inclusion of legislation to support forensic training for health care providers in the newly-reauthorized Violence Against Women's Act in 2022.
