Biography

Morgan Brissette is an assistant professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) School of Nursing with over 30 years in nursing, of which 20+ years are as a practicing Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). Her areas of expertise and interest include Women’s Health, Chronic Disease Management, and Geriatrics. She began her nursing career with a BSocSc (N) with a minor in sociology from the University of Natal (now KwaZulu) in South Africa in 1990. Throughout her career, she has focused on developing and providing access to healthcare for underserved communities. She has enjoyed working in rural health care both within the US and internationally while continuing to provide and promote better health care and patient outcomes. She earned her Master’s Degree and FNP certification from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1999 and completed her DNP from the University of Maryland in 2018. She has continued to enjoy teaching both FNP students and DNP students at the UAA since 2019.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Family Nurse Practitioner clinical courses (second-year clinical students) and Doctoral students.

  • President-Elect of the Alaska Nurse Practitioner Organization
  • An active member of the APRN Alliance, serving on legislative committees to promote APRN issues
