Due to unsafe road conditions for Anchorage and surrounding areas, UAA’s Anchorage campus will be on a delayed start today, Thursday, Dec. 4. Campus will open at 10 a.m. to allow for safer travel.
Social work master’s student Jay Greene (pronouns: they/them, he/him) believes in system reform through policy, as evidenced in their work with UAA’s LGBTQIA2S+ Committee and Gender Inclusive Housing Committee. Greene was a recipient of the Student Diversity Scholarship.
Set in beautiful northwest Alaska, Modern Subsistence is a documentary short by Ian Foster, a University of Alaska Anchorage School of Social Work master's student. Foster explores questions with modern hunter-gatherers in an effort to discover if/how ancient customs and modern society can coexist.
Even amidst a global pandemic slowdown, it’s been a productive year for Naidene Baechler. She will serve as the speaker for this fall’s graduate hooding ceremony after completing her Master of Social Work in May 2020. Merely one week after earning her degree, Baechler kicked off her career as program supervisor for the Knik Tribal Council (KTC).
Since 2014, the Municipality of Anchorage’s (MOA) Welcoming Anchorage project has been building a network between local businesses, organizations and the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation to recognize the contributions immigrants and refugees make to our city through economic, cultural and social impacts.
In 1992 Congress established the Udall Foundation in honor of the late Morris K. Udall, a democratic attorney who served as a representative from Arizona from 1961-1991. Udall was known for his leadership and lasting impact on the nation’s environment, public lands and natural resources, as well as his advocacy for supporting the rights and self-governance of Native Americans and Alaska Natives.
