She recited it at the Kick-Off event on Jan. 19. A full recording of the day's event, including Chancellor Tom Case reading a University proclamation dedicated to Alaska Civil Rights Month, is available on the UAA podcast page.

UAA has a long-standing tradition of honoring civil rights leaders, past and present. The year 2012 marks UAA's 27th year of celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy and UAA Alaska Civil Rights Month.

In honor of the significant achievement civil rights leaders have contributed to our nation, state and community, UAA Alaska Civil Rights Month begins Sunday, Jan. 15 in honor of Dr. King's legacy and concludes with the celebration of Elizabeth Peratrovich in February.

Please join the UAA campus community on Thursday, Jan. 19 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., in the UAA Student Union Cafeteria for Alaska Civil Rights Month Kick-Off. Chancellor Tom Case will greet the campus community, we'll hear remarks from UAA constituents and enjoy a birthday cake celebration to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy.
