Learn about bamboo and mahjong from guest speaker, Ning Yang, Ph.D., faculty member at George Mason University's Confucius Institute. This presentation is free and open to whoever would like to learn more about Chinese cultures. Don't be shy; participate!

Yang earned her doctoral degree at Radboud University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands and later worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Hong Kong University. She taught a course on comparative studies of English and Chinese to post-graduate students of Macao Polytechnic Institute. She's actively involved in programs relating to international education of Chinese language and culture, especially comparative culture studies. Since 2009, she's regularly lectured in English at Beijing Culture and Language University on topics such as bamboo and Chinese culture, lanterns, mahjong, Chinese films and Chinese chess to international audiences. Some of her lecture notes were even published in 2011.
