U.S. News ranks UAA among top public schools in the West

UAA is among the highest-ranked public colleges and universities in the 2020 Best Colleges rankings, compiled by U.S. News and World Report.

U.S. News recently transformed the rankings criteria to focus more on outcomes, such as graduation and retention rates, and less on input measures, such as acceptance rates and standardized test scores.

Take a look at how UAA performed in the rankings:

Among all universities in the United States

From a field of more than 200 schools, UAA tied with several other institutions for 52nd-best undergraduate engineering program (among schools that do not offer doctorate degrees in the field). Rankings for this category are based solely on surveys from deans and senior faculty members at engineering programs. Other schools ranked 52nd-place include University of Hartford, California State University-Sacramento and College of New Jersey.

Out of more than 500 schools, UAA is tied at 195th-place for best undergraduate business program. Rankings for this category are based solely on the judgements of deans and senior faculty members at peer institutions. Other schools ranked 195th-place include University of Alaska Fairbanks, Portland State University and Ithaca College.

Among all universities in the West

U.S. News defines regional universities as those that "offer a full range of undergraduate programs and some master's programs but few doctoral programs." UAA shares 62nd-place for best overall with three other universities: Eastern Washington University, Holy Names University and University of Central Oklahoma.

This list is a subset of the Best Regional Universities West rankings, featuring only public schools. UAA climbed two spots from last year's rankings to place 25th on the 2020 list.

UAA also placed high on several lists without official rankings, including: Most Students Age 25 and Older (national); Campus Ethnic Diversity (regional); Economic Diversity (regional); Highest Freshmen Retention Rates (regional); and Least Debt (regional).
