Last week, the cadets of UAA’s Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 001 were hard at work performing drill on the Merrill Field flight line behind the Aviation Technology Center. All this marching, inspection and rigorous attention to detail is meant to prepare these students for AFROTC’s congressionally mandated field training, a boot camp-like course held each year at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama that will test their ability to perform and lead in high stress environments. Det. 001 has been training America's future U.S. Air Force officers at UAA since 2000 as the nation's most northerly AFROTC detachment.
