Spring 2021 CoEng Celebration of Graduates
Congratulations graduates!
Each fall and spring the UAA College of Engineering faculty and staff celebrate your hard work and achievement of completing your degrees at our Celebration of Graduates event during which graduates of all seven disciplines including Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics, Mechanical Engineering, and Project Management are recognized. Graduates of some of the disciplines also have an opportunity to take the oath of the Order of the Engineer and/or the Pledge of the Computing Professional. During our spring event, we also recognize our College of Engineering Alumni of Achievement award recipients.
We hope that you and your families will join us at the celebration!

The Order of the Engineer and the Pledge of the Computing Professional
The oath of the Order of the Engineer is intended to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. The Obligation is the formal statement of an engineer's responsibilities to the public and to the profession. It is a creed similar to the oath attributed to Hippocrates that is generally taken by medical graduates and which sets forth an ethical code. Students taking the oath will receive a stainless-steel ring worn on the little finger of the working hand.
Graduates earning the following degrees are eligible to take the oath of the Order of the Engineer: Civil Engineering (CE), Computer Systems Engineering (CSE*), Electrical Engineering (EE), and Mechanical Engineering (ME)
The Pledge of the Computing Professional is intended to promote and recognize the ethical and moral behavior of graduates of computing-related degree programs as they transition to careers of service to society. Students taking the pledge will receive a certificate and lapel pin, a matrix with the word "Honor" encoded in ASCII, as a visible reminder of this Pledge throughout their professional careers.
Graduates earning the following degrees are eligible to take the Pledge of the Computing Professional: Computer Science (CS) and Computer Systems Engineering (CSE*)
*Students earning a degree in Computer Systems Engineering (CSE) are eligible to take BOTH the oath and the pledge.
A separate registration is required to participate in either the oath or the pledge. However, students are not required to take either in order to attend the Celebration of Graduates event and be recognized with your classmates.
Celebration Video
In this virtual, remote world we now live in, we want to give our students an opportunity to be seen and heard while being celebrated at this event. We invite all graduating College of Engineering students to submit a 10-15 second video clip in advance. These clips will be shared during the celebration event. Some ideas for your video message include:
- Thanking family, friends, classmates, professors
- What you plan to do next
- Reflection on the journey you've just had at UAA
- Sending good hopes and wishes to your classmates and underclassmen
Please film horizontally and limit your video clip to 10-15 seconds. Submit your videos using the link below by March 29, 2021.
Class Photo
We still want a Class Photo for our Grad Wall for Spring 2021. In lieu of a traditional Class Photo on the staircase, please submit your own selfie or favorite photo so we can capture the moment in a CoEng grad photo collage for spring 2021. Submit your photos using the link below (headshots only please, high resolution if possible) by April 23, 2021.
