Application Procedure - AAS & BS

Welcome!

We are thrilled you are interested in UAA’s AAS in Medical Laboratory Technology or the BS in Medical Laboratory Science. The program is limited to accepting 24 students each year. Therefore, admissions to the program are through a selection process. This page is designed to help you know what to expect from the selection process, and to give you tips on how to make your application as strong as it can be.

Admission Requirements

The UAA Academic Catalog lists the Admission Requirements for the AAS in Medical Laboratory Technology and the BS in Medical Laboratory Science. These requirements guide the selection process.

What the application process looks like

Go to the UAA Admissions site. When you get to the program selection page of the application, select undergraduate, then search for Medical Laboratory and the AAS and BS options will show up.

You will be asked to fill out information about yourself and respond to some prompts.

The prompts in the application are the following:

  1. Please describe what experiences influenced you to choose medical laboratory technology/science as your profession.
  2. Please describe your career goals and how the AAS in Medical Laboratory Technology or the BS in Medical Laboratory Science will help you achieve them.
  3. What do you consider as the strengths of our application to this program?

You will be asked to confirm that you have read the following:

  1. The Admission Requirements for the AAS in Medical Laboratory Technology and the BS in Medical Laboratory Science in the UAA Academic Catalog.
  2. The career description information on the Medical Laboratory Science program website.
  3. The FAQ’s on the UAA Medical Laboratory Science program website.
  4. And you will be asked to upload some documents, such as your high school and/or college transcripts.

Once the application is completed, it is sent to the program. The program will review your information, and also ask you to complete an interview. 

Admissions Decisions

The program will make its decisions by April 10, and you can expect to get a letter from UAA Admissions around that time. If you are not accepted into this particular program, UAA will help guide you to next steps. You will be placed in the AS General Sciences, which is designed to lead into many health programs at UAA. You can even reapply to either the AAS or the BS in Medical Laboratory Science in the next cycle, and your advisor can give you tips on how to strengthen your application.
