Education and Outreach
Suicide Prevention Gatekeper Workshop
We offer suicide prevention training for students, staff, and faculty. This initiative trains participants to recognize suicide risk and feel confident intervening and supporting someone who may be suicidal. Topics covered in this training include warning signs of suicide, how to effectively interact with someone who may be at risk for suicide, and what campus and community resources are available.
Outreach and Large Scale Events
The Health Promotion Team strives to provide consistent campus outreach by providing engaging and meaningful interactions with students. The team hosts informative tables with activities and free swag as well as larger scale awareness events such as health fairs and awareness events throughout the year. Additionally, we provide classroom lectures on various wellness topics; please inquire about booking such an event.
Sexual Health, Safer Sex and Healthy Relationships
We promote safer sex by educating students about STI prevention, proper contraceptive and barrier use as well as consent and healthy relationships. Students have the opportunity to receive STI testing, gynecological care and access to birth control, pregnancy tests and Plan B through the Student Health and Counseling Center. Our team also offers many educational opportunities such as themed tables and events throughout campus that provide a destigmatized and safe space to discuss sexual health topics. Health fairs are also held annually with the opportunity for free STI testing during that time. Safer sex supplies can be found at the SHCC and Seawolf Essentials Center as well as condom dispensers throughout campus (Student Union 2nd floor bathrooms, Health Sciences Building 1st floor bathrooms, Multicultural Student Center, dorms)
Vaccine Clinics
The Student Health and Counseling Center staff and Health Promotion Team work together to hold vaccine clinics in the Fall semesters for all students, staff and faculty. This community outreach allows for risk reduction of infectious diseases such as the flu and COVID-19.
