  • TRIO Programs at UAA

    TRIO Programs are grant funded through the United States Department of Education and are designed to help students enter into and complete post-secondary education. UAA currently hosts four TRIO program for student in high school, attending UAA, or pursuing a graduate degree.

 Student Support Services (SSS)

As a college retention program, TRIO SSS helps undergraduates meet the rigors of higher education and graduate from UAA. The TRIO SSS team assists first-generation, Pell Grant-eligible, and/or students who experience disabilities to succeed while at UAA. TRIO Student Support Services is a fully-funded TRIO program of the U.S. Department of Education in the amount of $228,186.00 annually.  McNair

TRIO McNair serves eligible undergraduate students from disadvantaged backgrounds, who have demonstrated strong academic potential for an advanced degree. McNair encourages participants to enroll in graduate programs, helps prepare participants through research and other scholarly activity, and then tracks their progress through to the successful completion of advanced degrees. The goal of McNair is to increase the attainment of Ph.D. degrees by students from underrepresented segments of society.

High School TRIO Programs at UAA

Upward Bound (UB)       

The Upward Bound program (UB) serves students in 9th-12th grades at West High School and Bartlett High School in the Anchorage School District. UB prepares students to successfully complete high school and enroll in and complete post-secondary education. TRI0 Upward Bound is a fully-funded TRIO program of the U.S. Department of Education in the amount of $257,500.00 annually.  Sec 402F Higher Education Act of 1965 SEC. 402C.20 U.S.C. 1070a–13.

Educational Talent Search (ETS)

The TRIO Educational Talent Search Program is a federally funded college access program at UAA that assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. ETS serves students in grades 9 - 12 at Bettye Davis East High School, West High School, and Bartlett High School in the Anchorage School District. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants with an emphasis on completing postsecondary education.

 Past TRIO Programs at UAA

Educational Opportunity Center (EOC)

UAA EOC staff worked to increase the number of adult participants who enroll in post-secondary education institutions. As of August 2016, this grant was not renewed and was closed in December 2016.
