General Information

What: TRIO Day is a nationally organized event between colleges and universities across the country that unite together to bring awareness and advocate for TRIO Programs.

Why: TRIO Programs offer Anchorage residents educational services and increased access to higher education. These services include: assistance with applying for college admissions and financial aid, individual tutoring, educational and career advising, as well as mentoring and professional development. Over 1,500 colleges, universities, and community agencies serve approximately 789,000 young people and adults nationally and more than 2,400 Alaskans, ranging from middle school age to adult, benefit from the services.  UAA began offering TRIO Programs in the early 1970s and continues to provide support for Alaskan students of all ages from low to moderate-income families.

UAA’s TRIO Programs consist of Student Support Services (SSS).  SSS provides currently enrolled UAA students with tutoring, technology, and tuition support, assistance with applying for financial aid, peer mentoring, and first year advising.
