Associate of Applied Science, Surgical Technology

Applicants are required to complete prerequisite courses and strongly encouraged to complete most, if not all of the general degree requirements as listed below prior to the selection process.  Prerequisite and general degree requirements can be completed in one academic year, depending on Mathematics and English/Writing placement.

Prerequisite Requirements

Complete or be in progress of the following program prerequisite courses by the program application deadline.  All prerequisites must be completed with a 'C' or better in order prior to the start of the full-major program.

  • Placement into MATH A105 or higher, or completion of MATH A055 or MATH A060 or a higher level mathematics course
  • BIOL A111 Human Anatomy and Physiology I or BIOL A113 Lectures in Human Anatomy and Physiology I (3-4 credits)
  • BIOL A112 Human Anatomy and Physiology II or BIOL A114 Lectures in Anatomy and Physiology II (3-4 credits)
  • WRTG A111 Writing Across Contexts (3 credits) (previously ENGL A111 Introduction to Compostion)
  • MA A101 Medical Terminology (3 credits)
  • MA A104 Essentials of Human Disease (3 credits)
  • BIOL A241 Lectures in Introductory Microbiology for Health Sciences or BIOL A240 Introductory Microbiology for Health Sciences (3-4 credits)

General Degree Requirements

The following nine (9) credits are degree requirements that must be complete in order to be eligible for graduation.  Applicants are strongly encouraged to completed the following credits of general degree requirements prior to application to the full-major program.  Completion of the following courses will increase competitiveness in the selection process.

  • WRTG A212 Writing and the Professions or WRTG A211 Writing Across Contexts or WRTG A213 Writing and the Sciences or WRTG A214 Arguing Across Contexts (3) (or ENGL equivalent)
  • PSY A111 General Psychology or PSY A150 Lifespan Development or SOC A101 Introduction to Sociology (3)
  • COMM A111 Fundamentals of Oral Communication or COMM A235 Small Group Communication or COMM A237 Interpersonal Communication or COMM A241 Public Speaking
